A Catch Dog is a dog used for hunting which has been specially trained by it's owner to chase and then keep the quarry stationary awaiting the arrival of the owner/hunter - to catch and hold.

Definition of Catch Dogs

Definition of Catch Dogs: Hunting Dogs, such as Catch dogs, have been bred specifically to enhance their skills in helping man to hunt. Their name derives from the word 'catch' which is used to convey the activity of the dog when it succeeds in catching or seizing its quarry, especially after a chase.

Catch dogs are often used to complement the hunting skills of Bay dogs. The barking of the Bay Dogs signals the hunters to release the "catch dogs" that are used to catch and hold the animal.

Description of Catch Dogs
Many Catch dogs have been cross bred to achieve the requirements of this hunting dogs and are tough, weighty and have strong teeth as in pit bull type dogs.
